Starting a Club:  It’s as Easy as A-B-C!

Want to start a club? Or revive an old one? This section is dedicated to tell you the ABC’s of doing just that.

To Start a Club

Have this great idea for a club that no one’s thought of?  Great!  Got a bunch of friends who want to see a club like it, too?  Even Better!  Here are some things you need in order to begin.

What you need to get:

1. Club Constitution Packet:  This packet is important because it outlines the general idea of registration criteria, classification information and constitutional guidelines.  Here’s a brief run-down of what the requirements are:
2. Membership list of 10 NJIT students (minimum)
3. NJIT Application for Registration – Student Organizations form filled out and signed by advisor
4. Approved advisor (member of NJIT)
5. Constitution:  The constitution ensures that there is a structured way of running the club so that future members handle it the same way.  A few important things that need to be included in the constitution are:
   • Purpose of the club
   • Voting membership and holding office allowed only to NJIT undergraduate, full-time students
   • Officer positions, powers and duties, and what happens if there’s a vacancy
   • Description of active/inactive status of a member
   • Procedures and grounds for officer impeachment
   • Elections time period
   • Quorum (the minimum number of members to be present in order to conduct business)
